    Expectations

This semester I expect to gain more of an understanding of German culture by looking at how the distant and more recent past has shaped Germany into what it is today. I hope that analyzing the past will enable meaningful comparison of the lifestyles of those in Germany to others around the world. I think that such comparison will allow me to gain a new perspective for viewing the culture of the United States, and broaden my world view. I realize that the course is based on a very broad topic, so I hope the sample of topics will provide a concise overview of the subject. As for specific topics, I expect to learn about how Germans view of the events surrounding the first and second world wars.
